Flying over Frontera

I went paragliding for the first time a couple weeks ago! El Hierro claims to be the best place in the world for paragliding, and I believe it! I went up with an instructor (since I know exactly nothing about how to work the parachute), and we drove up to Sabinosa, near the town of Frontera. I also got to meet his adorable 8 month-old baby. :) It was a beautiful sunny day, and a great introduction to paragliding!

After driving a little ways up the mountain, we walked over to a slope, and the instructor set up the paraglider, spreading the parachute way out and rearranging all the strings. We were hooked together, felt the wind a little bit, ran for about two seconds, and then we were flying through the sky!
I was super surprised by how smooth it was! El Hierro is perfect for paragliding because there is a constant gentle wind coming in from the sea and bouncing off the towering mountains. We were moving fast enough, but it was definitely not an adrenaline sport. Perfect for soaking up the views! We gently glided with the wind, seeing farms, towns, stunning views of the sunshine glittering off the ocean, and even some wild goats!
After my paragliding adventure, I spent a couple hours wandering around Frontera waiting for the next bus. I saw some beautiful vineyards, more towering cliffs, and a glimpse of the ocean. I also found this giant wooden sculpture below. I have absolutely no idea what it could be, so please enlighten me if you figure it out! :D
It was a great day for my first flight! I can't wait to fly again!

¡Hasta pronto!
I can hardly wait to para-glide there!
