Fulbright End of Year: The End of an Era

It's crazy that my time on this fabulous island is coming to a close! I jouneyed back to the peninsula recently to the End of Year Fulbright event to catch up with Fulbrights from around Spain, say goodbye to this amazing program, and drink some great Spanish wine.

It takes an entire day to fly from El Hierro to Madrid (even though it's the capital of the country where I live :D), but it was a Canary Islands holiday so I got chocolate-covered almonds on the plane ride over! I took two airplanes, four hours in total and flew over some stunning views of five islands, the volcano Teide, and the Spanish countryside.

I've missed wandering through the picturesque streets of Madrid, but it was very hot! Even though I live on an island, it never gets over about 75 degrees and it was in the mid-90s in Madrid this weekend! I was not ready, and am definitely not ready to be back in Washington DC in July. D:

The End of Year event was a great farewell to Fulbright. It's my sixth garden party and it's sad that it's my last one!

Featuring pictures with other canarias and a photo showing off small island pride.

My last day in Madrid, I went to brunch with some friends from last year and went to the Archeological Museum, which is a grand building with petroglyphs, paintings, lots of gold, and a stone axe!

Some highlights from the archeological museum:

That evening, I went to a rooftop concert with the friend I was staying with. It was a beautiful evening!

It was a lovely weekend in the big city of Madrid, but I was glad to be home on my little island! I can't believe it's almost time to say goodbye! :(

¡Hasta la próxima!
